What is the International Day of Trust?

The International Day of Trust (IDoT) is held on the 3rd of May each year, and commenced in 2010 in a small way in Sydney, Australia. It is an initiative of entente foundation, and is a day dedicated to raising awareness around the world of the importance of trust, the role it plays in our day to day lives, at work, at home, in our communities and in our global society.

We all live in a world of trust and mistrust, and we see the impacts of the dynamics of trust playing out each day, but we are generally unaware of what is really going on and why. IDoT is the chance to 'turn the light on' and show you just that.

The theme for IDoT over the next 3 years is this:

"Imagine a world built on trust..."


2012 - Activity 1:


I remember at school once we had to carry an egg around all day and pretend it was our child. Some people dropped theirs, some forgot theirs and left them in the classroom, others forgot to 'feed' theirs. I think I did OK with mine. It was memorable, that's for sure!

Well, that's the activity we've chosen for the International Day of Trust for 2012.


Here's all you need to do on the 3rd of May:

Step 1:
Grab an egg (Make sure it's not boiled, because that's cheating!!)
Step 2:
Write your name on it, draw a face, decorate it - whatever, but make sure you can tell that it's yours
Step 3:

Carry it with you all day! or, choose to give it to someone else to carry
Step 4:
 Jump on our International Day of Trust Facebook page and tell us what happened for you, how did it feel, has it made you more aware of how much you trust the people and things around you every day? Upload your photo or video and let's see if we can reach our target of 100,000 people carrying an egg around for the day, and raise awareness of trust!




Why an egg?

As I represent trust as an egg in my trust model, (you can download The Simple Truth about Trust e-book for free, to see what I mean) then it seems like the perfect thing to do for each of us to remember just how fragile our trust is, and yet we put it out there every day, handing it to others to hold for us, unaware of what we are giving each other, and not communicating what we are trusting them for.
